Haiti Election Watch

September 15th. 2005, it is midnight, the deadline for all Haitians running for the Presidency or for a Senate or Deputy Seat, to deposit the required documents that will make them elligible to participate in the comming elections which will be held on November 20th.2005.

According to Stephane Lacroix, the Official Spokesman for the Provisionary Electoral Council (CEP), there are over 2.3 million electors with electoral cards, 53 candidates for the Presidency of Haiti, 150 candidates for 30 Senate Seats and 500 candidates for 135 Deputy Seats.

Among the candidates :

2 are previous President of Haiti, namely Lesly Manigat and Rene Preval.
4 candidates are from FADH, the old army - Frank Romain, Dany Toussaint, Himler Rebu and Guy Phillipe
3 candidates are religious leaders - Luc Mesadieu, Chavannes Jeune, Arnold Principal
11 are without political parties, they are called "Independant"
33 are from organized political parties or polical group alliances.
