Hand-wound voice coil coupled with a thin aluminum plate to display vibration patterns in a fine medium. A project to be published in Make Magazine in 2008.
A Ruben's Tube-based fire tube, used as a visualizer for music. Fire is hypnotic by itself, but when it's pulsing in time to the beat, it is even more so! This is tube #2 in what will be a progression of tests and improvements.
Just me exercising some new pieces in my visual arsenal... the tesla is a McCauley miniBrute, and the new bit on the fire is the topper, a higher-pressure regulator, and a new blower.
I wanted to mix music and fire, for a festive flaming backdrop for an upcoming show, so the Ruben's Tube is in the works! The first half of this experiment shows pure tunes in the 4-10Hz range. Then an interlude while I bump the table and fiddle with settings. And then a short burst of Blue Man Group at the end. Sorry, no audio.
