A detailed tour of my house during the Peace Corps in Mashobeni South, Swaziland. Excuse the cheesiness...This was originally intended for my folks at home in the States. (And note the computer - I had electricity part of the time). I lived in one of several buildings on the "homestead" of a widow and her grandchildren.
A montage of still images from Swaziland, Southern Africa. Swaziland, the size of New Jersey, is one of the last remaining absolute monarchies in the world -- and is currently suffering from the highest rates of HIV, with over 42% of pregnant women testing positive.
A public service announcement illustrating the grassroots efforts of communities in Swaziland, the nation with the highest rates of HIV in the world.
Features music by South African artists Simphiwe Dana & Tananas.
This is a series of still photos set to music created by my sister and I for my parents, illustrating our journey home for the holidays after I finished the Peace Corps. It features our reunion (a surprise for my Dad's birthday in Olympia) and our holidays at Holden Village in the North Cascades of Washington State. It definitely lived up to the daydreams I had for 27 months away!
Walking back from the toilet to my house, across the homestead of my host family. Typical morning, passing family members and saying hello. My wonderful, talkative gogo (granny) stops me to chat - notice how many times I *think* the conversation is over! ;-)
Walking from my family's main house to the house I stayed in throughout Peace corps, will hills beyond, passing grape vines, other buildings, an avacado tree, and finally my house.
The walk from my house across the family's lovely homestead. Basic morning routine, but nice tour of the place. Ends (for obvious reasons) once I reach the toilet.
Well...it definitely *could* be. This is a scene from an incredible site - Kolmanskop - A German mining town slowly reclaimed by the desert. Don't let Hollywood get a hold of it...
This is one of the homes in the old mining town of Kolmanskop now slowly disappearing into the desert. One of the most interesting places I've ever witnessed.
A view of cozy, quiet Holden Village from "Main street". Holden is an intentional community in the North Cascades of Washington State open to guests and staff year round.
