This is a short video about my teacher, friend, and colleague Abou Sylla. Abou is a griot from Guinea, West Africa who lives and works in Gainesville, FL. He has performed on stages across the world and appeared live and on recordings with globally recognized musicians. The majority of the video was shot during a short residency by some Malian musicians at the University of Florida.
Excerpts from my first video. This was a class project I made with my colleague Michelle Chang. There is some terrible lighting and misspelled subtitles, but otherwise OK. The video was shot during a residency by marimba masters Manuel and Pedro Tomás Mateo here at UF in the Spring of 2006.
