The most peaceful province in Afghanistan, is also the poorest.
Bamiyan is a region where there is little poppy production and no Taliban presence.
But as a result, international forces are not spending as much money winning "hearts and minds".
Al Jazeera's Hamish Macdonald travelled to Bamiyan and sent this report.
