I've loved this song since I was twelve. Great melody, harmonies, story, production, changes, just a monster hit and an all time favorite. Just having a little fun with it.
Arrangement of a standard bossa, with an improv section. This is a very cool, hip 60's bossa that's fun to play. I've heard some great arrangements of this, including the great Howard Roberts.
I first heard this on the PBS Civil War series. I was playing it at a cafe once, and a patron told me it was originally a Scottish tune. A simple, beautiful melody that I love to play.
I pulled out the tele, cranked up the reverb and figured to have fun with some surf tunes. So what came out was..........a Sinatra tune. Go figure. I don't know if Frank was a big tele fan, but I know he loved Tony Mottola. I loved Frank and Tony both, so this is dedicated to them.
A version of this is on my cd 'Late Night at the Kick Back Lounge', available at http://cdbaby.com/cd /livoti3.
This was a great 1960's psychedelic song. I don't remember the name of the band that did it, but I remember hearing the bass player died or something. He was replaced by another bass player who looked exactly like him, had the same voice, played bass, piano, guitar and drums, and wrote great songs as well. He had the same wife too. It was just amazing. And so were the Beatles.
One of my favorite songs ever, by David Raskin from the great Noir movie. The first riff is a Joe Diorio line I transposed and put in the open strings, the last Dm riff I copped from Joe Pass. My way of saying thanks........
An arrangement/improv on the great McCartney tune. A lot of the chord stuff on this tune was shown to me by Howie Morgen when I was his student years ago. He was a great teacher who pretty much got my fretboard theory down for me. So, this is dedicated to him.
After seeing the awesome movie "I
Walk the Line", my wife bought a Johnny Cash cd, and I started fiddling with this tune. As a kid I loved the Johnny Cash show, and was stoked when I learned the opening riff. Long live the Man In Black.
This is a song from my cd, 'Greetings From Galaxy X', available on cdbaby.com.
It is dedicated to the great Joe Diorio, who continues to expand my thinking thirty years after finding 'Fusion' in a used bookstore. Joe, I love you and will be your student for as many lives as it takes. If I don't see you no more in this world.........
I love Willie Nelson for a lot of reasons. His playing, his writing, his voice, and his willingness to stand up for what he believes in among them. A little improv on one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
