This clip shows Orson performing the broomstick suspension with Lucy: the secret gizmo that makes the illusion possible was made for Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth by Carl Owen. The prop went on to belong to Chuck Kirkham then Piet Paulo and then me. I donated to David Copperfield for his museum. I figured it deserved something better than living in a duffle bag in my garage!

This routine was later stolen by magician N Lewin who followed Costello around the country to learn the 'work' involved. He eventually tricked him into revealing the secret move which has become known in the magic world simply as 'The Costello'

This is very cool magic episode of Alfred Hitchcock that was written for me by executive producer Michael Sloan. The footage of Houdini is real and the props really belonged to Houdini.
