This classic union song was written by Florence Reece in 1931 while mine owners were terrorizing coal workers in bloody Harlan County. Natlie Merchant covered it on The House Carpenter's Daughter in 2003.
Dino Valenti wrote it but it hit a note with hippies in the middle and late sixties and it propelled Jesse Colin Young and his band to stardom for a time.
The most commercial track from one of the least commercial bands in Europe, "Spoon" was first released on Ege Bamyasi in 1972. It made it to #1 in Germany.
